Battle of Iwo Jima
On Feb 19, 1945 about 35, 000 United States Marines with the 3rd, 4th and sixth Marine Divisions, under Versus Amphibious Corps, landed in Iwo Jima and a battle for the island commenced. The getting was referred to as Operation Detachment.
